The Public Safety Officer also collaborates, initiates, and supports opportunities with other functions by championing the goals and priorities of the Tribe in a manner that faithfully reflects and upholds the Tribe’s mission, vision, and values.
The PSO may be assigned to various special assignments such as executive protection, canine operations, among others. Duties also involve crime prevention, investigating crimes, detaining suspects, responding to emergencies, performing as initial Incident Commander until relieved, testifying in court proceedings, and protection of life. PSO’s are involved with the enforcement of laws, rules, and regulations under the State of California, Federal, and Tribal Government codes, securing an assigned area, conducting investigations, collecting evidence, and preparing timely and accurate reports. PSOs must deliver critical safety and security services in a business-oriented, courteous, customer service, and professional manner. This position requires exceptional customer relations skills.
Under the direction of the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Shift Sergeant, the Public Safety Officer (PSO) is a uniformed, armed position responsible for providing public safety to the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians (SMBMI) Reservation and all its Tribal citizens, assets, customers, facilities, and operations, including the Yaamava Resort and Casino at San Manuel.
